Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
So the main holiday has come and gone but in that wonderful Irish Christmas way we will stretch the holiday till well into the first week in January. It took me a good few years to get used to that though I must say. Now I am well used to it. This has only been my 5th Christmas in Ireland. I have been here for many more years than that as you know but I rarely stayed until recently. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and for those that hate Christmas I am sure you are glad its over. In fact for those that hate Christmas I recommend living in NY where you can get back to normal on the 26th and even go to the cinema on the 25th.
I am glad that the blog has had a little bit more activity of late. The last discussion was very interesting and I thank everyone for their feedback. Indeed some of it was riddled with unashamed hatred but all opinions are welcome. I am not feeling very argumentative now myself as the festive season has been exceptionally relaxing.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the people of Fatima Mansions who took part in the making of the Documentary that was on RTE2 on Christmas Day. I found it strangely emotional and very enjoyable. Particularly because it was so involving of the kids both in front of and behind the camera. I think even Bertie Ahern found it slightly difficult when confronted with children. Well done to the people of the Ark who put the project together. As a Rialto resident I live in hope that the new development that replaced Fatima will bring a prosperous future to the area and its residents. I am especially proud of Krisma the rapper from the show who some of you might know has performed during some of my shows in Vicar St. She is a real talent at such a young age and very courageous to be putting herself out there so young.
Some of you may have seen on my myspace page that I released some dates for Vicar St. They are on sale now for May 3,4,5. However I think there are only a few left. I may do 3 more in May but then after that I will be waiting until September to do anymore. So just giving the Blogger regulars warning in case you want to see the show sooner.
Hope you are all well.

Des,
Sorry, nothing to do with your last post but needed to get some things across.
Just watched your DVD, Fitting In, don't get me wrong, it's really funny and all, but just one thing on it was quite misleading.
You seemed to act like the only people interested in your spell in Tuam were the Travellers themselves. This is untrue. The Mall Theatre was far from being merely filled with Travellers. People from all over Tuam, both settled and not came along to support you, Martin Bobo, Martin Beans and Donna.
I heard you had a problem with Tuam people calling people from the surrounding countryside "buffers"..when "they themselves are buffers." Haha, well I assume you got the Traveller meaning for "buffer," the one which means "settled person."
To Tuam people, the word "buffer" means "country person", our word for "culchie" or "bogger." If you paid any attention to us while you were here you will have noticed the unique Tuam humour, making this quite inoffensive!
Anyway, just felt like clearing those things up.
Keep up the good work!

Dear Des,
You have lived on minimum wage and in some of Ireland's most kippy areas, so why don't you come do both at the same time in Sydney? We are five Irish girls living in a big blue house in Bondi and we reckon the story of what the Irish backpackers get up to out here would make a great TV programme. At least, all the bloody culchie drunks out here seem to think they are comedians... You can come stay with us, or if you're busy send Hector over! Love from Ciara, Helen, Jenny, Karmen and Leslie *

That Fatima Mansions programme was great - the kids were brilliant and it was so nostalgic to see them going back to the flats just before they were demolished.
