Comments

In reference to the comment below I might just recommend that to be taken a little bit more seriously you should try avoiding starting your points with xenophobic comments. But in reference to the very limiting comment about the church not being all bad I think you will find you can say that about everything. You would in fact never discuss much if you could never talkl about anything that was not all bad. I am sure you would even find people who would have rather discussed Hitler's unbelievable organisational skills.

But one must also realise that while all involved in the church are not bad the church intself as an institution has beliefs it preaches. Rome persists with outdated views on sexuality and uses its massive publicity power as well as its moral hold on society to push it on people. I find that this is no longer of benefit to our society and I have already given the examples of this. All people in the church are not bad but the institutions opinions can be discussed as all emcompassing.

Comments:
"The church says it is a sacred act. Even that could be bullshit. Discuss?"

Des, That comment could be construed as bullshit OR it could be very valid. Depends on peoples
perspective and experience. I mean i know i've experienced both during the infamous "act". I bet there are a lot of people who have also. IM sure prostitutes look at the act as pure bullshit and an ends to means while two people deeply in love would find it very sacred. What more is there to discuss.

As for underage sex, i think that is bullshit as everyone physically develops at different times. There are some 14 year olds who are ready to have sex and some 16 yr olds who aren't, its all relative. Regardless of what the church says people are doing "it" anyway. Society has almost completely disregarded what the church or the politicians have to say on this matter, and you know what the teenagers nowadays, in my opinion, really don't give a shit what they say either. You mentioned that its the adults that are voicing their opinions about what should or shouldnt happen. I reckon the teenagers really don't give a shit and are doing what they want to do anyway!

I've always maintained that religious / spiritual belief is personal, not communal. Therefore ALL religious 'organisations' are obselete, and should be disempowered from any social or political decision making. There are as many versions of 'god' as there are people. You and I can all talk to our own god, we don't need middle men. We DID in olden days, when we were a superstitious race, but to have a group of people all thinking they worship the exact same god is ludicrous. Overthrow the f**kers. If they want an organised religion they can bloody well pay for it themselves, and KEEP it to themselves.

xenophobic comments..... That's a good one coming from the king of xenophobic comedy. Des you come to Ireland and go around the country trying to get people to laugh at themselves when we have been doing that long before you were born. And then you think you know us and our ways. You come from and country where on your money it says " IN GOD WE TRUST" but of course all others pay cash or die.
We Irish people are proud of our past. Some of our past is bad and people have suffered, and are still suffering to this day .But what we don't need is outsiders telling us what we need. Over the last few years outsiders have been telling us what to do, and look where the country has gone, murder, drugs and so on. Sounds familiar Des. Yes the US way of life has come to our door.

Thats a fair savage debate, Theres a teacher in my school in kilkenny, his names James Rossiter, whos the most ridiculous person i've ever met in my life, says he was in your year in school. So I was wondering if maybe you made make up some deadly joke about him, please

hey des

interesting discussion here, you definitely have a point re religion, i'd largely agree with what you've said

in fairness, in contrast to what one of the anonymous posters said, there's a big difference between being xenophobic and simply pointing out some of the ridiculous traits that each nationality has (and as an irish person, i think too many irish are defensive about and not able to laugh at themselves)

i saw you on ryan tubridy's show a few weeks back and was pretty taken aback by how opionionated you were - i think irish people are still not quite used to the idea of a comedian who's as forceful about what he believes in as you are - in many ways it's admirable but in other ways it could turn people against you

in the states, nobody would bat an eyelid, but over here it ruffles feathers and whilst the comment you made (about republicans here and in the states and how they both use violence to further their cause) was a valid one, it was almost like you were morphing into this ian paisley-like figure before my eyes belting out his beliefs to those who would listen!

no offence man, i think you're an intelligent and funny guy but those are just my thoughts on it

man fuck all you paddy micks stay the fuck out of my way from Richard Devitt to gay ass O'Conner boys playing basketball ya filthy micks are annoying as hell stay out of Society Hill II

isnt it great des the way you can take the piss out of the irish the way you do, we so called muck savages give you your living, you got your educations here, your collage here, your accomodation and money here, your not too quick to take the piss out of the average yank, thats because they would shoot you, your a big man in ireland but a nobody any where else, your days as a star are coming to an end and about time too, your like bono, full of shit in your big houses, you never saw a poor day in your life and you dare to take the piss out of the disadvantaged areas, hey for your next show return to theses areas in the hood and see what these people think about you now, and put it on tv, go on yank go home your a bleeding tit

Where am I? What year is this? WHO'S THE PRESIDENT???!!?

aaaarrrgh!!!!

*RUNS AWAY AGAIN*

Hey there! Just checked out your blog for the first time, i know its been a few weeks since, but in regards to the Limerick episode repeat of Joy In The Hood!! It was scheduled to be on the same night and time as Limerick was the headline topic on Question's and Answers, (RE: Moyross!) I think RTE did a good move in not showing it that night, most of the viewers in this city were more interested in finding out how that problem was been tackled!! (And still waiting might i add!) Any chance the series will be released on DVD??
