Hello,
Back in Dublin and back to having a fridge. I have been away from Knocka for 2 days now and I can already tell you that I am quite bored. I stand outside the door of my apartment waiting to talk to someone but only one person passes and they just look at me funny. I guess I should not have shouted, "Nice trousers ya langer!" But you forget that people are not a familiar with each other in apartments on the Ringsend Rd. I miss the craic on the street and all the cars honking as they pass. ITS SO QUIET.
The gig went so well it is hard to express it in words. I am so proud of the 4 lads. They put in so much hard work and it really paid off. I think they will remember that night for a long time. I hope some of them keep it up now as I feel there is some real talent there. Plus I think the audience absolutely loved it and I feel they would like to see more comedy on in the community. What an occassion really, when you think about it. 200 people all from the local area supporting local talent and the night being a ripper. We only promoted it with posters in Knocka, Farranree, Fair Hill, Curchfield, Gruan and Shandon St. I think there was 5 people from the Southside there, and they were very welcome. Up the norries!
A quick word on ASBOS. Surely it is areas like Knocknaheeny where they are intended to help. Well most people I taked to in Knocka did not even know about them, and those that did thought they were an awful thing. They feel it avoids the real issues of why there is so much anti social behaviour in the area. The reason I brought it up was while I was in Knocknaheeny with no trees in sight that arrogant crusader Michael McD made a comment about all the people giving out about the ASBOS who go back to their leafy suburbs and don't have to deal with the real problem. I don't think he lives in Darndale or even Ballybrack so what the hell is he talking about. He needs votes to keep him in the Leafy Suburbs and the people in the Leafy suburbs are the ones that vote. ASBOS are for them. ASBOS look good in the papers. If McD went to the suburbs with no leaves in them he would be attacked, and it would not be by youths, it would be by people who have been ignored since the 1970's and are sick of politicians who don't care about their real needs. So Michael, go back to your leafy suburb please, or do the warm up for me in my next gig in Southill, Limerick. Bring your ASBOS though because you will be in danger.
Looking forward to the Cat Laughs by the way. Hope to see you all there. I am in the International all weekend with PJ Gallagher from the Naked Camera. The whistle guy if you don't know.

hey well done on Knocka gig, was there, and the atmosphere was electric and had the best time, though you're right in saying the TV show will only be a small part of it all, it really seemed that the positivity that came from the night in St.Vincents will spill over into other areas and generally promote well being.how do i go about contacting one of the 4 comedjians?im not stalking!just wondering about the idea of devising a play.Anyway, try not to get upset about McDowell, those kinds of people cant change but whats worst of it is that people actually vote for him.i was in PDs for while when in college, just there for possibility of free drink, until i realised alot of them admire Thatcher...enough said.
Howdy Des, Chief here--saw you in Sligo a while back with JB.
Just a note to say I've added links to your blog and site on mine, Sinead tipped me off about the sites. Enjoyed the Dundalk audio stuff, reminded me of a drunken weekend there almost ten years ago: laceys, the mineshaft, that pub the corrs own, and drinking cider in the park. In Norwich now doing a PhD on superhero films--any UK appearances coming?.

Oh, I thought you might live in Ringsend alrite! Bout a month ago you stopped me & my mam in the street one night asking if we'd seen the Paddy Casey gig. I was wearing slippers, my mam was wearing a dressing gown thing and suddenly Des Bishop stops us and tells us we look like we've just been to the paddy casey gig. I was convinced as you drove away that we'd just missed out on winning a grand and that you were asking us for some radio competition!
Did I miss out out on winning a grand?
From the girl who lives in the next street.
